The US Census and Politics

Preliminary numbers are in for the census and Tino shows that traditional Republican states are looking to gain seats in the House while traditional Democrat states are losing seats. The shift is about the size of adding another Kansas to the Republican block. (Come to think of it, block is a good word to describe Republicans lately.)

Among the important questions is who is doing the moving. If conservatives are leaving traditional liberal states, state and national politics gets more polarized. If liberals are leaving, it could have the opposite effect, temporarily at least.
