The Newnited States of Facebook

Following up the earlier discussion of an imaginary US with 50 equally-populated states, here is what the US looks like according to Facebook. Now this isn't the more fanciful renaming of states with their favorite applications, but rather it notes patterns in how people are connected to each other.

You can find a full description of each region here, but the main feature is that each region has different hub patterns. People in Stayathomia and Pacifica are largely friends with other people in the same city, while Dixie, Greater Texas, Socalistan are more likely to take to nearby cities with hubs in Atlanta, Dallas, and LA/Frisco, respectively. In the Nomadic West people are much more likely to have friends far apart from themselves, interrupted only by the I-15 corridor from northern Arizona, through Utah, into Idaho appropriately named Mormonia. I wish they spoke a little more about the inter-regional connections to LA, NY, DC and maybe Boston it looks like.
